How does Daskapital handle taxes on income earned by investors from Daslending (Crowdlending)?

Daskapital handles taxes on earnings obtained on investments in Daslending(Crowdlending) as described below.

Investors residing in Portugal investing in:

  • Companies headquartered in Portugal:
    For earnings obtained on investments on operations whose promoter is headquartered in Portugal, the Investors do not need to be concerned either with the tax payment or the declaration of income to the Portuguese tax authority because Daskapital is responsible for tax retention and subsequent income declaration (article 71 of the IRS Code). Check the applicable tax retention rates below.

  • Companies not headquartered in Portugal:
    The tax over earnings obtained on investments on operations promoted by a non-Portuguese entity shall be paid as a capital return obtained in the promoter's country of fiscal residency. In this case, Daskapital does not retain taxes, meaning the investors will be receiving the gross payment. The investors then have to include Annex J in the annual income statement in order to declare the income obtained abroad.

Investors residing outside of Portugal investing in:

  • Companies headquartered in Portugal:
    For earnings obtained on investments on operations whose promoter is headquartered in Portugal Daskapital retains the applicable tax (article 71 of the IRS Code). Investors should check with their country of residence's tax authorities, in order to check for existing double taxation agreements. Check the applicable tax retention rates below.

  • Companies not headquartered in Portugal:
    Daskapital does not retain tax on earnings obtained on investments on operations promoted by non-Portuguese entities meaning that investors will receive the gross interest. It is therefore the investor's responsibility to check with their country of residence's tax authorities and, the foreign income declaration rules applicable to the promoter's country.

In any case, at the beginning of each year, you will receive a detailed declaration of all your earnings and eventual tax retentions for the previous year containing all necessary details for your income declaration.

Applicable tax retention rates:

  • Individual Investors: 28%

  • Institutional investors: 25%

In the above-described cases, these rates are automatically retained from earnings and declared to the Portuguese Tax Authorities.
